The Google+ Project

Google has announced the Google+ Project, their new take on the Social Network which is being touted as a competitor to Facebook. Bold claims...

That said, first impressions are very good! Seems like Google have learned from the two previous social failures and put together something which actually looks, well, right! But we all know that doesnt necessarily mean it will work.

Google+ is currently in invitation only with new invitations and features being rolled out soon. We will be sure to check it out and tell you what we think.

What do you think? Room for another social network? A better one? Send us your comments via Facebook and Twitter, we'd love to hear your opinion.

Facebook Page Migration for Business

We blogged some time ago about a common mistake we were seeing with Businesses on Facebook (Facebook Business Pages (don't make a big mistake)) and that we were seeing a growing number of business Facebook presences being setup as a Facebook Profile and not a Facebook Page. This is against Facebook terms and came with the heavy penalty of your profile being deleted. A worrying prospect if you made that mistake. But there's good news...

Facebook Places

Facebook has launched it's new location based service in the UK, 'Places'.

Facebook Places is much like other location based services such as Foursquare and Gowalla where you 'check-in' at locations from your mobile and see who among your friends have been, or are currently at the same location.

Places has been available in the US for a short while and is now available in the UK on the iPhone and other smartphone devices via Facebooks mobile website.

To see if you have access, install the Facebook for iPhone Application from the App Store or for other smartphones use the Facebook mobile website at http://touch.facebook.com.

Mozilla has finally released Firefox 3.6, the newest version of its popular browser.

The new edition of Firefox sports an array of features, least of which is an increase in speed — 20% faster than Firefox 3.5, according to Mozilla. It uses Gecko 1.9.2 web-rendering, which improves its load times, startup speed and stability. Javascript execution is faster and smoother as well.

Channel 4 is coming to YouTube

It has just been announced that Channel 4 has signed a 3 year deal with YouTube to make Channel 4 original programming available on demand, in full and free-of-charge in the UK on YouTube!
Channel 4 is the first broadcaster in the world to offer a comprehensive catch-up schedule available on YouTube and puts itself perfectly alongside BBC's iPlayer for on demand television in the UK.
The deal provides Channel 4's 4oD video-on-deman 'catch-up' service of new programmes available on YouTube shortly after television transmission. The service will also be able to access 3,000 hours of full length programming from the Channel 4 archive at any given time.
Content should begin to be avaiable over the coming months. Whether content will be available via mobile, remains to be seen but we would guess (hope) it would be.

Cloud computing called into question

Cloud computing and the whole method of storing data online has been severely called into question this week, with the failure by T-Mobile and Danger (a microsoft owned subsiduary).
It would appear that Sidekick device owners were left in the unenviable position of finding out that all their data such as contacts and notes had been lost. That's lost forever not lost and we might find it !
With the seemingly unstoppable growth in this business model, where users store there valuable data on on a server in some remote location owned by a third party, the question is simply this.
Do you know where your data is stored and how its being backed up.

Bing goes the Google?

There has been A LOT of talk about Microsofts new search engine 'Bing' and that it is the first contender to Google's search crown, but is it true? Is Bing really a real alternative to Google?
It has been reported that Bings market share has grown significantly since its release and its search deal with Yahoo! would see Bing as a REAL contender to Google search.
Well, the proof is in the tasting and over the next few weeks, I am going to be running Google and Bing together for my work and personal searches to see if Bing really can mix it with search giant, Google.
Things could get interesting...
